The Weekend

Over the weekend, my friend Anne and I went to Des Arc, Arkansas to visit some great friends I have known for almost 3 years. We enjoyed great home cooking, kite flying, movies, games, hanging with friends, and so much more. One of the hardest parts of the weekend was seeing thousands of acres of land, homes, and parks covered in water. Des Arc has been the victim of huge amounts of flooding that have forced many out of their homes. It was amazing to drive down a road and to look to the right and left and to see water about 1/2 foot from the road. Homes had water up to the door, parks were under-water, huge fields of land were covered in water, park benches were unable to be seen, snakes were everywhere, and the people in Des Arc and surrounding communities are trying to save their homes and businesses from the water. We saw cars parked on the side of the road because people were having to use boats to get to their homes and they were moving out furniture and other belongings because the water is expected to rise again by the middle of the week. The levy's and dams are at their capacity and the people are praying that the dams hold strong because the flooding will be worse.
